How
the program helped them find a job
- “I didn't know much about
e-mails and excel or word . With this program I now know
excel and word to the point that I'm confident if asked
to perform a task regarding either. When my temporary assignment
came to an end I was able to do a resume, e-mail it. I
could job search without leaving my home. My present permanent
job came about working with this program.”
- “The computer has helped
me out a whole lot, since this is pretty much 95% of my
career. I am a customer service technician and part time
correspondence assistant. Before getting this job, I had
studied online through Business Access. Fortunately, my
computer had the same systems like the one at work. It
looked very good on my resume which I typed from home.
Also the ability to give them an email address was very
professional and probably ensured brownie points with the
boss.”
- “Now, I feel confident that
when I search for better jobs I can say, "I know how
to do that!" I've even learned how to surf the web
and am currently learning how to develop web pages using
the HTML language. It's pretty exciting and self- fulfilling.”

The
value of the computer
- “Having the computer has
helped me a great deal. I am a full time college student
and having a computer at home cuts back on having to go
to the college and stay for hours at a time to type a paper.
And, I don’t have to find a babysitter for my 3 children.”
- “To Business Access, thank
you for the opportunity - I am really enjoying it. To the
workforce board, this program has taught me the joy of
having a computer. It has helped my typing skills, it keeps
me busy, it keeps me updated on what is happening in the
world, and there are a million more great qualities this
computer has brought to my home.”
- “It has helped me with job
search and typing my resume and sending them out to recruiters.
I researched to find company type letters. I made a flyer
and planned a party. I found a medical clinic for my daughter
and a dentist. I use the pc to find directions to job interviews.”

The
value of online learning
- “My success story comes
from the learning classes. They have given me the knowledge
and opportunity to receive a career working for the worldwide
company Citi Financial. If it had not been for the Business
Access learning classes, I wouldn't be the only person
in my building that does imaging. I am proud to be one
of the students of Business Access.”
- “This computer has helped
me to study for my GED and to help my kids with their homework.
It has given us time to explore the Internet. The Welfare
To Work Program was the best thing that you all could come
up with, this program helps encourage ladies on welfare
that their is hope, and that there are jobs out there that
will give them a chance.”
- “Before I got the PC I really
didn't have any computer skills, since then with the help
of my computer class and the PC at home, I have skills
to enter the workforce, not to mention my kids have more
computer skills because of the PC being in my home. This
program is a special one, it educates you and your family.”
- “With the regular Internet,
I wouldn't know what to look for. But with BA,
I have some guidance. BA makes things more exciting while
you are feeding your mind and learning and teaching all
at the same time. I even have my three year old on the
computer pointing out her letters.”

Value
to Achievers’ children and families
- “Having a computer provides
fun and educational web sites for my 11, 9 and 7 year olds.
They get excited whenever they get on the computer and
encounter new and exciting adventures that they have never
come across before.”
- “My daughter uses it for
school homework, math problems, sentences, science, and
reading games. She has pulled up her grades in school.”
- “It helps out my 2 year
old, he loves to do math on it. My 15 yrs old loves the
games. Having this computer has made me and my kids think
positively about work and school. It has really been a
life saver for me and my 3 kids.”
- “My father has been in
jail for about 10 years or so. I subscribed to an e-mail
ministry that is free. Every time I receive a message,
I print it out, make copies, and send them to him so he
can pass them out to his friends and cell mates. These
stories have totally changed many peoples lives that are
incarcerated.”
- “My kids want to do their
homework on the computer. Most of their friends at school
have a computer and now they do not feel left out when
they are allowed to do their reports on computers.”
- “My son was on the verge
of flunking his math class because of the lack of knowledge
he had on his homework. But when we got the computer he
had the extra help that I couldn't provide him. All three
of my children grades went up a lot . I never knew that
this computer would have that much input in their lives.
Plus, it keeps my children busy more so they don't get
on my nerves that much.”

Motivated
by the investment made in them
- “I feel that the program
is good for all women. It gives you motivation and helps
you know you are someone who can succeed in life. This
program helped me open my eyes and see that I am an ACHIEVER
and I can do it.”
- “I have been off welfare
for about 5 months now with no intention of getting back
on public assistance. I would like to open my own daycare.
The BA computer is a big inspiration in my life as well
as my home.”
- “It is a real privilege
to have this kind of help. When a person doesn't have much
in their life they don't really feel too good about themselves.
But when you receive something that's going to help you
the rest of your life, that makes you feel a whole lot
better. About yourself and everything you are doing to
help your family. So thank you so very much.”
- “Receiving public assistance
has been a real embarrassment to me. I lost most of my
confidence, and basically felt badly about myself. To me,
having a computer is terrific. If I may be so bold to say:
I have felt much more dignity being computer literate than
I ever felt at any public assistance building.”
- “For those who are not aware
of the real changes in computer technology this program
alerts us that times have changed and we need to catch
up with that. I don't fear what I don't know anymore because
I can find out via the computer, e-mail , internet - or
however - but I'll know.”
